Domain Name
If you don't already have one, you need to register a Domain Name for your web site.
You could just sign up with a web hosting service and use their location,
but if you ever want to switch web hosting services, your URL will change
and all of your links will stop working.
It is very cheap to register your own Domain Name, so it is well worth it.
I recommend utilizing GoDaddy
because they have lots of free features, allows for easy transferring of domains,
and make it easy to manage multiple domains
Web Hosting
There are hundreds of web hosting services, some more reliable than others.
Some are very restrictive, while others are slow and unreliable.
I use, and recommend
WebHost4Life,
which is allows you to do lots of things that you can't do with most web hosts
and is very affordable.
If you don't have a web site yet, and don't really know where to begin,
they have a Website Builder process that is completely free and
only takes a few minutes to create your own new site. You'll spend
more time than that just adding your content.
Not only is it extremely affordable, there is unlimited traffic allowed,
you can add sub-domains to sub-directories,
hook into a SQL database, setup web e-mail accounts,
all for no additional charge.
You can even hook another domain name
into a sub-directory on your account for an additional $15/year,
effectively paying a LOT less for what you would otherwise have to setup another account for.
E-mail
While your web hosting company most likely gives you free
e-mail with your web hosting, it's quite possible it doesn't work well for you.
I use GoDaddy
because their web mail interface allows you to mark spam
to try to filter out more spam than it already blocks.
I haven't had nearly as much success blocking spam with any other
e-mail solution, plus their web mail interface is very easy to use.
